Wellington Fire District – a SPARTACOTE concrete coatings fire station case study

Project Location: Wellington, CO
Facility: Wellington Fire District
Project Size: 4,000 Sq Ft
SPARTACOTE Concrete Coating System Installed: SPARTACOTE FLEX SB Chip Seamless Flooring System with Safety Stripes
Contractor: Mile High Coatings – Fort Collins, CO

Wellington Fire District’s Fire Station Flooring Challenge
With a history dating back to 1905, the Wellington Fire Protection District proudly serves over 3000 residents living throughout an area of 288 square miles in Northern Colorado. The members respond to over 500 calls per year, ranging in nature from medical emergencies to hazardous material incidents. The district recently completed construction of a brand new fire station that required a high-performance concrete floor coating system designed to meet the specific requirements of the facility. Prerequisites of the surface included the ability to resist not only oil and grease, but also a number of harsh chemicals used for equipment maintenance. In addition, the coating had to exhibit strong abrasion and impact resistance qualities that are necessary for heavy-traffic environments. The installation contractor, Mile High Coatings of Fort Collins, CO, consulted with the customer to select SPARTACOTE FLEX™ SB Chip high performance polyaspartic concrete coating system. To ease vehicle parking and organization, twelve 40’ long Safety Yellow stripes were integrated into the floor coating system.

With the floor properly prepped, the contractor installed a light-grey SPARTACOTE Flex® SB polyaspartic prime coat. The floor was then taped off and safety yellow stripes were applied using SPARTACOTE Flex® SB Safety Yellow polyaspartic concrete coating. With […]

How to maintain your SPARTACOTE® Polyaspartic Concrete Coatings Floor

SPARTACOTE® polyaspartic concrete coating systems are nonporous, making them easier to clean because dirt and contaminants remain on the surface. SPARTACOTE® floors are stronger and more resistant to chemicals than many other types of flooring. It is important to keep the following things in mind when cleaning SPARTACOTE® polyaspartic concrete floors:

Dirt and Grime on Concrete Coatings
Since debris remains on the surface, it tends to act as an abrasive and will eventually mar the finish in heavy traffic environments. As such, it is important that your SPARTACOTE® floor be properly maintained on a regular basis.

Cleaning Agents on Concrete Coatings
Do not use soap on your SPARTACOTE® floor because it will create a film that is difficult to remove with rinsing. A film left behind after cleaning causes two issues: 1) the film will become slippery when wet and 2) this film attracts dirt and debris, which causes the floor to look dirty soon after it has been washed. Floor stripping agents, citrus-based cleaners and corrosive chemical degreasers are also not recommended as they can damage a floor if they are applied and left to sit for an extended period of time. A simple mixture of a PH-neutral cleaner, such as Simple Green® diluted with water, is recommended for regularly scheduled maintenance.

Tools to Use to Clean Your SPARTACOTE® Floor:
Mops – if you have traction additives or a rougher surface such as a quartz floor, be sure to use a rayon mop instead of a cotton mop. Rayon mops use synthetic fiber that is less likely to get hung-up on the surface and leave fuzz balls.

Soft-Bristled Brush – For more difficult to remove stains a soft bristled brush may be used to agitate dirt and debris. Be […]
