Installation Specifics:
This hanger floor was completed using HP Spartacote’s high performance polyaspartic coating and required both standard and custom colors as part of the overall design. The expectation was for a completely flat and smooth floor that could be done efficiently and provide an exceptional system as the owner had been unhappy with an epoxy system in one of his pervious facilities. The floor was in “like new condition” when the project began and did not have an existing coating on it or any staining. The entire process took a 4 man crew 3 days to complete due to the multiple colors and the floor was put back into full service 48 hours after completion. (an extra day was given to achieve greater chemical resistance).

The concrete surface was prepared by grinding to an 80-grit profile and repairing any cracks using HP Spartacote’s Fast Fix Repair material. The floor was vacuumed and blown to get a dust free surface for application.

Coating application began with a 3 mil white prime coat using a foam squeegee. Once the prime was dry lines were marked out and taped off indicating the dividing line between the white and the pomegranate colors. The installer then applied two 3mil coats of white polyaspartic over the main body of the floor using the squeegee and back roll method to get a solid white floor that was free from streaks and roller marks. After the second body coat the tape was pulled while the floor was still wet for ease of removal. Once dry, the area was re-taped and two 3 mil coats of pomegranate polyaspartic were then applied out to the perimeter walls of the building. Great care was taken during this stage so as not to contaminate the white center section with any of the dark pomegranate color.

Once the pomegranate color was dry, the tape was removed from the previous days application. After the tape was removed the crew began marking out a perfect 5” wide line to be placed at the point where the white and pomegranate colors come together. The line had to be square to the building and be taped off on both sides all the way around. Once the tape off was complete the installer applied two coats of black Sparta-Flex™ polaspartic to create the black line. The system was completed with a 3 mil high gloss coat of Sparta-Flex® clear 72% without the use of a traction additive to get the smoothest floor possible per the owners request. Both the owner and the designer were extremely pleased with the entire process and the durability of the floor.

Three-Year Follow-Up

The floor has performed superbly following 3+ years of heavy-traffic use. As evidenced by the photos below, the floor has maintained its integrity with absolutely no failures. There are no visible stains and the surface has exhibited fantastic color & gloss retention.
